JLS Release #34: Double Dead Guy ~ initially released in kegs for JLS accounts, this new elixir will be launched in 750 ml ceramic bottles in the spring of 2008! D2 (our nickname for Double Dead Guy) is a new reincarnation of Rogue's classic Dead Guy Ale. Mahogany in color, full bodied with an amazing mid-palette richness of toffee and caramel. The hops are evident also, with just enough to keep the maltiness in check. The finish lasts > 15 seconds!! D2 is Double the Fun! Malts: 2-row Pale, Munich, C15. Hops. Cascade for boil (because John was out pf Perle) and Crystal for aroma (because John was out of Sterling ...) IBU's approx 50-60. 19.8 Plato Original Gravity, 4.9 Plato Terminal Gravity.

Stoneware swingtop bottle, as Rogue XS Dead Guy Ale, from Costco, Sacramento. The ordinary Dead Guy Ale is not a favourite of mine, but this one is much better. Mahogany colour. The aroma is okay, but not outstanding. The flavour is excellent, malty and vinous with notes of toffee and caramel, also decent hops. Pleasant warming mouthfeel.

A bright amber color with a white head. Aroma contains some alcohol, rye, oranges, and caramel. The flavor is very sweet tons of reisn, alcohol, cifrus, molasses. This is on the cloying side for sure. Try it once try it small and be done.

Bottle from 2009. Pours with a large frothy head with good retention and lacing. Much like the brewers description and very smooth. Only #57 in Style Rank but very enjoyable.

Purchased this dark brown glass 750ml bottle at the LCBO. Pours a clean darker amber colour with a big fizzy, light-beige head that dissipates quickly into some foam and lacing is minimal. Aromas of dark fruits (plums, dates) with some caramel malts, warming alcohol and hints of nuts. Smooth mouthfeel with no burning, light warmth, but really nice for 9% ABV. Nice bitterness in the taste, where the hop shows more, bringing a little dryness, but not too much. Notes of roasted and burnt malts with the fruits taking a step back with the nuts. Another beautiful experiment from this great brewery.

Poured a hazy, dark amber colour with a large, foamy, creamy head. Had alot of carbonation, very bubbly. Good lacing. Strong, sweet flavours along the lines of toffee and caramel. Malts are evident in the flavour as well as aroma. notes of spices in the taste and in the finish. Smell a tiny bit of the alcohol and maybe some breads. More hoppy than malty. Very good for high abv!

The beer poured a translucent scarlet red with a generous tan coloured head. The aroma was sweet malt, alcohol, weak fruits, and floral hops. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was caramel malt, some fruit (cherry?), a little graininess, and a bitter finish. -

Sweet malty aroma, though aroma is very weak overall and is definitely the low point of this beer. The appearance on the otherhand is quite strong, very clear beer with a reddish orange color and thick white head. Mouthfeel is thick and somewhat cloying but the dry hoppy finish is enough to compensate for that. It's a big malty beer otherwise.

i've had this previously on tap at the Brick Store in Atlanta. i didnt take notes, i guess i was focused on the person i was with.
Sampled on 10/30/2009. 750 ml red bottle with beerguy101. pours an amber color, thick head. aroma is citrus and malty. sweet malty caramel, hoppiness. it's all amped up. good balance. a little alcohol burn, wouldnt mind trying this after a little aging to mellow it out. aftertaste is slightly bitter. -

Sampled on 10/30/2009. This American Strong Ale pours a medium orange gold color from a big red ceramic 750ml bottle. Medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity and malty. A medium bodied American Strong Ale. The malts are caramel, fruity and sweet. The hops are herbal and floral. Nice carbonation. Good balance. Definitely a ramped up dead guy, which is not a bad thing. Seems to be a little boozy with a fairly noticeable alcohol bite for a 9% beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

750ml bottle, dated 2009. Pours a hazy orange amber with a frothy smallish head that goes to a thin film that leaves some lacing.
The aroma is sweet caramel malts, toasted toffee, and some fruits and a little alcohol.
The flavor is toasted biscuity malts, nuts and some fruitiness with a little alcohol and some decent bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with low smooth carbonation.
Overall, an interesting beer. I like this a lot better than than the regular version but there's still some of the toasted biscuity malts that I don't much care for.
