My friend brought this back from his recent trip to TX. This was an interesting experience...strong flavors of caramel, and a strong bitter hop presence too. These two dichotomies battle it out on the tongue, and I'm not sure if one of them actually comes out as a victor. I've never had such a bitter caramel tasting beer before. I guess that's what makes it a double ESB. I think I prefer regular ESBs more than this, but I rated the flavor highly for its uniqueness. Everything else about it, the medium brown color, that average mouthfeel,...yeah, everything else was rather uninteresting.

I really wanted to like this more but it fell middle of the road for me.. basic gold, medium foam .. . light bitterness with a slightly unbalanced sweetness thrown in .. Ever go out for cheeseburgers and beer? The amusing house wine?

Flying saucer, Austin Tx. A big ESB for sure maybe a strong ale like Brett suggested. Deep copper body, ok head and lace. Malty caramel flavor with a bitter hop presence in the middle and a long toffee finish. Overall it was a respectable enough brew, that I am glad i finally got to try.

I went to the brewery and tried all the beers. This one stuck out the most from my trip. It had a wonderful hop infused taste. It wasn't hoppy enough to blow my socks off, but the blend of hops was great. The aroma had a primary hop and carmel smell. Overall, I would not hesitate to buy this or order it at a pub. I even bought a T-shirt of the beer after the tour.

Sampled on draft at the Flying Saucer, Addison. When I first tipped the glass, I was expecting an ESB. This beer's strength and fullness firmly puts this in the strong ale category, though, so be expecting that. I tried this one in summer, even though its a Winter seasonal. The hops seemed a bit tame - perhaps a sign that its age was starting to show. The caramel malts were a bit agressive and dominated the beer's flavor. A good sipper, still.
