Tasting at Rockwell Bar & Grill. Dark with light brown foam head. Aroma is small coffee. Taste is deep coffee, good strong bitter aftertaste. (Houston 201310)

My sample fizzed like nobody’s business, so open it slowly and have a thirsty towel handy. Once the fizzing settles down, it pours a deep coffee brown that lets in a snip of daylight at the bottom. Thick buff head is rather persistent and leaves some generous lacing. Aroma tempts with coffee, chocolate, roast malt, and subtle licorice and caramel notes. Well-rounded flavor pleases with coffee, semi-sweet chocolate and licorice notes plus a snip of hops. Texture is the weakest point, being thinner than most stouts I have sampled and having a fizz that fades. However, this scarcely detracts from the enjoyment of this splendid beer. Attention, Chile: Y’all can brew some darned good beer!
