Stout is the illegitimate child of a beer that enjoyed the height of its popularity in early 1700s England: Porter (although it’s experiencing a nice resurgence today). Porter was the name used to describe a popular dark beer among street and river porters (carriers) that had been made with roasted malts. Stout was a word used to describe a “strong” version of Porter, so it was used as a descriptor much the same way we use it today. Towards the end of the 19th century Stout gained the reputation of being a health-strengthening drink, so it was used by athletes as well as nursing mothers and anyone trying to recover from an illness. This is a beer with a dark side. Held up to the light of day……well, there is no light of day coming through this beer. Revelations Stout has a presence all its own that commands attention. And its jet black body, with its creamy head lightly sitting atop your pint like a nimbus cloud is a joy to behold. At the first heavenly sip, our stout’s deliciously rich, deep flavor contains notes of dark chocolate, caramel, and a hint of roasted coffee. While it has been a staple beer among enthusiasts, we have found that many beer drinkers unfamiliar with the style have found a new favorite. While some think that it will be too bitter or roasty, the first taste wins them over by warming their bellies as well as their hearts. Rich, hearty beer deserves rich hearty food. Try it with steak or meat pie. Enjoy it with an Irish-type cheese like Dubliner Cheddar. And of course, it goes effortlessly with anything chocolate like chocolate soufflé or tiramisu. Or try it with Josh G’s personal favorite: a simple no-bake cookie

A dark brown to black draw from the tap with a deeply tanned head with moderate retention and moderate lacing. Surprisingly lighter than its color of texture would lead one to believe... even in warmer weather this would be a nice stout as opposed to some heavier textured versions. Roasted malts, chocolate and toffee are present in a very balanced ratio. Could have had a several more of these, but no way I could have driven away. Very nice and the best of the Public House line-up.
