Cerveza Cacao is a golden ale brewed with cocoa, vanilla, and cinnamon; inspired by the ancient Aztec drink: xocolatl (pronounced chocolatal). Montezuma supposedly drank 50 cups per day, and thousands of years later Mexicans are still drinking it. Theobroma cacao, the botanical name for the cacao plant, means Food of the Gods- what better ingredient to brew with? And what better beer to celebrate National Beer and Chocolate Week (Feb 13-17) ? Not to mention Valentine's Day.

This is a bit of a disappointment for a beer. Pours a hazy brown with a small head. The aroma is a bit of caramel and nutmeg. The cocoa doesn’t really come through as much as I expected. The flavor doesn’t really suggest German-style wheat in any way. Drinkable, but not what I was hoping for. Maybe a touch of heat from chile, but maybe I’m just expecting it because it’s based on a drink that combines cocoa and chiles.
