A rich, malty Scottish style ale brewed with a splash of molasses in the boil to create a unique Caramel flavor. Small quantities of hops are used to keep the bitterness low and the aroma and finish clean and crisp. Named for our first brewmaster in Del Mar, John Garvey.

this brewer was hit or miss, this one being a miss. Overly sweet, lacking in body and complexity. Non-offensive, but thoroughly boring for the style.

Huntington Beach - While admittedly I don't ever frequent enough Scottish style ales, it is a style I do enjoy. This was a nice version of this the style I thought. Appearance was a darker amber in color, nice head with quick disipation. Aroma is medium smoke, sweet malts and a wet earthy character. Flavor is sweet malts, light smoke, and a bit of sweet chocolate. A nice beer that I'd buy again.

Light brown brew with a slight malt nose. Very light malt flavor with no smokiness. Light body. Utter disappointment.

Medium amber color. Aroma is very neutral, only slightly smoke and malts. A medium bodied ale. Malts are nutty and slightly sweet. Hops are grapefruity, with a touch if cherry and mango? Not a lot of peat or smoke, it tastes more like an amber ale. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
