We kicked it up a notch with our Bolshevik Bastard Imperial Stout, aging it in Kentucky Bourbon barrels. The rich chocolate, coffee and dark fruit flavours from our Imperial Stout are married together with the vanilla, oak and warming alcohol from bourbon barrels. Together as one, the result is an incredible blend of aroma and taste. Drink it today, or cellar it to enjoy later as it matures.

This is the Bolshevik Bastard in Bourbon Barrels, however as I’m not a fan of bourbon flavoured beer, it does nothing for me. It’s still a dark black pour, but aside from that the bourbon and oak notes take away from the stout experience for me.

Pours a real dark brown with no visible highlights. Fizzy sound, looks like the beige head is going to disappear quickly, but not so much. Some creamy thin lace is left. Aromas starts off with roasted malts and hops. After breathing, butterscotch, alcohol, vanilla, cherries and wood appear. No burning with the alcohol well-hidden in the mouthfeel. Smooth and silky. Roasted and chocolate malts, with some licorice, nuts and coffee. The finish has a nice bit blended from the alcohol and the hop. Nicely done !

Pours a huge, thick milky brownish head and has a very dark appearance, pretty much pitch black. Thick lacing all around. Aromas of vanilla, light chocolate, oak, little bit of alcohol. Flavours of dark chocolate, toffee, caramel malts, some notes of vanilla. The bourbon is actually fairly noticeable, but blended well with the malts so, a much more subdued taste. Mainly bourbon like in the finish as well as with the mouthfeel. Smooth, silky and oily mouthfeel with a somewhat strong alcohol feel that lingers. Great stuff!

On tap @ the Bent Elbow - Served in a tulip snifter...deep dark roily black with a mocha colored cap. Aromas are pungent...dark fruit, coffee, cocoa, grape skin, vanilla. Rich viscous texture. Dark roast coffee/cocoa over figs vanilla and spicy hopping, some booze, long lush finish where the oak becomes detectable. Great barrel aged stout. Fine offering.

The beer pours a solid black colour with a creamy half inch head. The aroma was sweet dark fruit, roasted malt, molasses, and vanilla. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, with medium carbonation. The flavour is sweet roasted malt, plum, molasses, vanilla, and coffee and more than a touch of bourbon. Good, strong beer! -

I bought this beer at the brewery in Burlington Ontario Canada.Pours dark with a thick tan head. Very odd large size bubbles make the head that lasts about half way through your pint. Strong aroma of alcohol (10.0%) Really pleasant chocolate, coffee flavour. Some lacing on the glass. Very pleasant beer, enjoyed it

Purchased from the brewery. Pours like used motor oil. Black with small tan head that dissipates to a ring and a skim. Slithers down the inside of the glass and leaves spots of lacing. Aroma of strong roasted malts, rich dark chocolate and alcohol. Loads of flavour. Sweet start, dark chocolate, coffee, liquorice, vanilla and bourbon. Love the warmth of the alcohol. Wish it had a 10 for a mouthfeel. Excellent stuff. Ps Great label.
