Despite its pure black colour and big malt character, this beer is sure to surprise once it hits the palate. This stout has actually been kettle soured with lactobacillus, giving it a refreshing component with a burst of tart acidity. While the typical stout notes of roast, chocolate and smoke are there, there is also a notable aspect of tangy, sour berries. Unlike many stouts, it drinks very well in the warm weather months and is bound to tantalize with its uncommon complexity.

The beer poured a solid black colour with a thin brown ring for a head. The aroma was burnt wood, almost barrel like notes, roasted malt, dark chocolate, and some tart fruit. The mouthfeel was thin to medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour was sour funk with notes or roasted malt and coffee. An interesting beer, but not something I would reach for again.
