In 2006, the Coastal Extreme Brewing Crew started the Cyclone Series, a clever idea before limited release beers were the norm. This clever idea produced 26 different beers ranging widely in taste, complexity, and lack of sleep for our brewers! We traveled through the alphabet, with no shortcuts, starting with Alyssa and now introducing, the last letter ‘Z’ for Zach, an imperial oatmeal stout. Cyclone Zach is an intense beer, both in its brewing and flavor profile. Six mashes, rather than the usual two, were required to create this brew, leading to round the clock brewing. Boasting a 10.1% ABV Zach is truly a big and bold beer, but his most important characteristic is smoothness. To create Zach’s silky smooth flavor, the brewers combined extra tank conditioning time with the addition of the most flaked oat ever used in a Storm brew, to balance the otherwise over intense roasted backbone of the beer. This Cyclone will stand up to the test of time, our Brew Master recommends aging this beer for years to come.

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7
Give it a 7 for appearance just because it's almost black. Poor head retention and no lacing. Mild aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate and smoke. Mouthfeel is blahh for a 10+ abv. Nice flavour of roasted malts, dark chocolate, smoke and dark fruits. Finishes with a slight hop flavour. Not bad but expected more.

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9
Every now and then I wish they had half points on the rating scale. The stickler here is the flavor and overall not quite a 9, but too good to judge as just an 8. Up front it's mostly chocolate sweet malts, but then there's oatmeal for some flavor and texture followed by some mild clean hop, just enough bitterness to offset all the malts that make this over 10%. Actually quite smooth with very little alcohol bite for the strength. Appearance doesn't get much better. Could argue for a near 10 there, but the lacing is on the thinner side. Also only $8.99 a 6-pack which is almost unheard of in FL for something this strong. I want to bring 1 or 2 of these home to age, but not sure I want to deal with packing bottles. Found some new good beer in Rhode Island, so that's a plus!
