Tasted at Noogfest 4.0 (2008). This Barley Wine pours a medium brown color from a 750ml bottle. Small sized white foamy head. The aroma is caramel and sweet, with some sherry and a touch of oxidation. A medium bodied Barley Wine. The malts are caramel and sweet. The hops are earthy. This beer is definitely an older barley wine, it is developing that woody oxidation flavor, and the hop profile is fading. Might be a little past its prime. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

A big thanks to cquiroga for bringing this beer to the Woodshop tasting at Stuffed Sandwich in San Gabriel, CA. Clear brown color, malty, sweet tasty. This has aged very nicely.

08.06.05 750ml blue bottle, as usual. It’s funny how people gush over these bottles as if they’re very fancy and somehow help justify the very high price of these Extreme beers; yet many of the cheapest reislings (wines that cost half the price of this beer) come in the same cheapo vessels. Anyhoo, this stuff is a murky, muddy brown with only the slightest ring of khaki head. Big sugar/spice aromas, brown bread, hot alcohol. Figgy, melted milk chocolate, bitter hops linger. It’s got a somewhat gritty texture. An unfocused mess to me, oxidation and age don’t seem to have been kind...and it’s still very hot, wine-like and woody, but not in the best way.

Nutty, winish, maybe hints of Walnut or Almonds, can't decide. Pours a deep, cloudy dark ruby brown, large beige head and thick sheets of fine lace. Malty start, thick, rich, creamy top, and a dry hop spicy finish and the large ABV, warms the tummy when it hits bottom. One fine beer.
