Minimus Dubbel (8.5% ABV) is a classical dark brown Belgian abbey-style beer made with a variety of malts and traditional Belgian candy sugar. It has a soured mash in order to give it a slight acidity to offset the sweetness of the malt and the sugar and has aged hops used in it which is traditional for this style of beer. The Minimus also has French oak infusion spirals in it to give it an oaky softness that is also typical of these beers. It is served unfiltered. The name is from the latin expression "minima maxima sunt" ("The smallest things are most important").

650ml bottle, clean copper-amber colour with a mocha-coloured head, average retention and small amounts of lacing. Some dark fruits in the aromas, but something is slightly off - kind of chemical, from the hops. Herbal, almost minty. It does calm down, and some caramel and roasted malts show the base. Even hints of nuttiness. This shows in the flavours with a touch of maple syrup. Not feeling much the Belgian-side, even its sugars. More like an Imperial Brown ale, but decent to drink and warm up a bit.

On tap at Ottawa Brewpub. Minimus Dubbel, 21 ibu's. Has an average size frothy beige head and has a light amber coppery appearance. Dirty lacing. Aromas of Belgian yeast, sweet malts. Flavours are actually quite sweet, fairly strong sugary notes. Also has that Belgian yeast in the mix. Has a slick and slightly bitter mouthfeel.
