Rich, smoky aroma has an overtone of apple brandy and nutty and caramel hints. It pours a dark opaque sable with a fine-bubbled, almost velvety tan head that leaves a fair amount of lacing. Wine and brandy dominate the smoky coffee taste, which has nutty, caramel and unsweet chocolate hints. Lively, full-bodied texture is quite fizzy and leaves behind a strong tingle and a dry red wine finish.

375 ml green bottle (corked and wired), red foil top / partly red label, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 13.1%. Pitch black colour, low brown head. Lovely roasty, oaky and vinous aroma, also hints of leather and cigarbox. Very roasty flavour (a distinct roasty and hoppy bitterness throughout), medium sweet with distinct oaky notes.

Bottled. Pitch black colour, brown head. Aroma is quite spiced, mild alcohol, some toasted and ashy notes as well. Also some liquorice. Flavour is liquorice, salted liquorice, wood, some toasted notes as well as spices. Also some fruityness and a bit acidic notes. Very pleasant actually.

this was the first of the 3 barrel aged black holes we tried (rum already sold out). all 3 pour black with brown edges, little head. this one had the most complex aroma and flavor of the 3. the coffee, vanilla, and honey from the beer still came through, especially roasted bittersweet coffee, and a slight tannic aspect from the wine. very nice, and better than i expected. 8/11- not quite as great as the cognac and bourbon this year, but i won't knock it from 4.3.

Pours out in a an opaque black colour with a surprisingly rich creamy tan-coloured head. Strong aroma of wood, salty licorice, red wine, dark berries and alcohol. Full-bodied with notes of wood, roasted malts, coffee, mild tart red wine, mild pepper, and black chocolate. Long full peppery finish of wood, dark chocolate, coffee and mild red wine. Robust and elegant.
