Our ‘Monsoonal Blonde’ is a wheat ale based loosely on the style that has evolved in American microbreweries over the last 10 – 20 years. The defining characteristics of this particular style of wheat beer, is that it should be light ‘summery’ thirst-quencher, the wheat component of the malt bill contributing freshness and delicacy to the overall flavour profile of the beer. Our ‘Blonde’ combines pale malt and wheat malts – in almost equal proportions – with judicious use of Saaz, Hersbrucker and Styrian Golding hops, as well as a measured addition of fresh orange zest late in the boil. We seek to retain a light ‘malty’ palate with almost minimal hop bitterness and aromatics while allowing an ‘orange blossom’ perfume to emerge on the nose, courtesy of the orange zest. Unlike the aforementioned beers (ie River Rocks, Pride of Blackwood), the 'Blonde' is named for the environment in which it is brewed and consumed. Broome is located on the periphery of the Asian monsoonal zone and experiences a 'wet season' during the southern summer months.
