That’s right, The Original Pretzel Stout. This 6.5% abv stout is as black as oil and is brewed with over six pounds of crushed sourdough pretzels per barrel. Guess what? There’s no style guideline for this one. The salty fingerprint of the pretzels works with the sweet and roasty flavors of the chocolate malted & roasted barley to give this beer a flavor that is much greater than the sum of its parts.

Comes out of the tap a rich, warm sable with a thick and fine-bubbled tan head. Roast malt aroma has woody and earthy notes. Flavor has a firm roast malt core that supports semi-sweet chocolate, earthy, smoky and nutty tones - plus a teeny waxy (?) snip. Firm and viscous texture has good fizz and leaves a chocolaty, earthy, smoky finish. Pretzel Stout or There Will Be Stout, a most worthy beer.

Tasting at Rockwell Tavern. Black, small foam. Typical stout tasting, could not find the pretzel. Great bitter taste though, went well along with my burger. (Houston 201501)
