Ruby red body with minimal head. Lovely aroma, mostly malt. Flavour is delicious, malty and some alcohol. Sweet finish yet not cloying. I could drink a lot of these. Bottle version drank four years later: not near as good as the fresh on-tap, but still a good beer.

A: Loose foamy head, sinks fast. Good bubbling. Burnished amber/copper colour S: Slight molassess, caramelised malt. Touch metallic F: As it smells, with some honeycomb notes. This is a malt-dominated style - "Dogbolter" according to the brewery.... Light/medium bitterness. Hint of roast/coffee. Touch of alcohol. M: Medium mouthfeel O: Having put many a pint of the Admiral away over the years, I can say I prefer the draught version, which is 6.7% abv, and usually with a more chocolatey profile. The bottle is 6.1%.
