Heir Apparent is an Imperial Stout with a complex caramel soul tempered by chocolate and roasty undertones. Sweeter than our Russian Imperial Stouts at only 60 IBUs but balanced by the heat of fresh Mexican peppers, Vanilla, Cinnamon and Cocoa Nibs. The Heir Apparent is ambitiously biding his time until he comes to power. His time will come. Winner – Silver Medal – 2015 Great American Beer Festival – Chili Beer

Can from LCBO. Pours an average size frothy tan head and has a deep dark brown appearance. Decent sticky lacing. Some visible sediment. Moderate carbonation. Aromas of roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla, smoky. Flavours are sweet and chocolatey, some mild peppery notes, a bit woodsy and some spice notes as well hints of cinnamon. Nice warm and smooth mouthfeel. A tad boozy but not overly, especially at 11.7%abv, it could be dangerous. Pretty good stuff overall, quite enjoyable.

Pours a hazy copper colour with light amber highlights. The head looks like a frothy coffee top. This one is slightly creamy, with recent stay and some creamy lacing. You can smell the spiciness of the hop peppers over chocolate malts. The peppers are felt even more in the taste leaving a heated warm spicy mouthfeel lingering. All this with the warm alcohol feel. The vanilla is mild if there only to blend things. Nothing too complex, but I quite like this pepper-warming Imperial Stout.

Pours opaque chocolate brown with a fair light tan head. Aroma presents peppery, roast malt and mocha notes. Flavor delivers roast malt, coffee, peppery and chocolate tones - The pepper is not overwhelming, just "Hello there." Mouthfeel offers good body, lively fizz, and a subtle peppery finish. Hail the Heir Apparent!

The beer pours a dark black with a thin creamy dark brown head. The aroma is roasted malt, milk chocolate, cinnamon, coffee, and vanilla. No peppers on the nose. The mouthfeel is full bodied, creamy, and amply carbonated. The peppers come through in the flavour along with the cinnamon and milk chocolate notes. The roasted malt is there, but you feel the peppers and alcohol as it goes down the hatch.
