Dark gold with a good white, soupy head. Perfectly clear. Aroma is big hoppy. Smells slightly old, but not really skunked. Long, lingering bitterness. An IPA of pils.

As the weather finally calms down, and folks are all amok about the plethora of Octoberfest beers hitting the store shelves and the pub taps, I've taken a different tack, by drinking a lot more Lagers than I do the rest of the year. And with a few days here in Norfolk VA, it only stands to reason that I'd hit up the Total Wine & More (Virginia Beach), to stock up on some beers. And seeing as how I am in VA, it also only stands to reason that I'd grab something local. Enter: Legend Brewing Co.'s Pilsner.
Long story short? I wanted to like this one more than I did, to be honest. I warmed up to it a bit, once I had a pizza to go with it, to watch the NLDS. But solo? It's got some issues, IMHO.
What's the problem? Just not clean and crisp enough to really warrant the Pils name. Maybe that's why they chose to use the American spelling of "Pilsner", perhaps? ;^)
But seriously? This is not bad, but the backend and the mouthfeel seem a little on the cloying, thick, and turgid side of things. A sharpness in the finish that kinda got stuck in the back of my mouth. Not the most "easy drinking" Pils that has crossed my path...
But otherwise? No complaints per se, but, on the other hand, nothing that really stands out as glowing highlights of greatness. Or even "goodness", for that matter....
I always try to toss my support to the locals, wherever I'm traveling. But between St George (Hampton) and Legend (Richmond), I find it hard to keep going back to the well whenever I'm in the Hampton Roads area...

I drank this on tap at a Colonial Williamsburg Tavern the other night. The beer selection was pretty limited so I went for this unknown local brew. It had a like pale amber color without much head. Slightly malty, roasted. Nothing special but just fine for washing down a meal.
