There is no place like Leavenworth during the winter season. Well known for the Bavarian theme and for its festivals, many people don’t realize that Leavenworth is also home to an incredible array of winter activities and recreation. Skiing and snowboarding, Nordic skiing, sleigh rides, snowmobiling, snow tubing and, most importantly, ski jumping. The hub of winter activity from 1930 thru the 1970’s, Bakke Hill was built in Leavenworth in 1933 and was one of the largest ski jumps in the country. Over the decades, it was enlarged several times and gained a reputation as the most known ski jump in western United States through the hosting of the U.S. American championships. International competitors came to Leavenworth and dazzled the huge crowds by jumping record-breaking lengths of 345 feet. Named originally from the Hall of Famer Magnus Bakke – who helped design the jump – the Leavenworth Ski Hill and surrounding acreage is still used today for downhill skiing, Nordic skiing and lower level jumping competitions.

A deep brown nearly black colored beer with a big frothy textured tan head rising above. There's some hang time on the head. It settles into a light dusting of film and fairly robust ringlet. A light roasted nose. Same roastiness in the tasting. A big burnt on the edges. Some grassy hops follow in. Light bodied. Very drinkable.
