Two bottles from two different years and two spoiled beers. Based on other reviews I am sure this beer is supposed to taste much better but based on the lacking quality control I am very dissapointed. The smell was a lactic sourness and the flavor hinted that at one point this was an imperial stout, honestly not sure how these got sold, one was this year's release even, their QC guy should get canned.

My favorite style and even substyle of brew. While this isn't among the ELITE, it IS pretty damn good, and at $6.99, this is the "everyday" BB stout in this area. Velvety smooth feel, if a little sweet. The aroma would be a 7.5 and the feel an 8.5 if i could do so. The flavor is similar to the aroma but there's a little tiny offness to the aroma (vegetal) not present in the flavor. Very chocolate/mocha forward with a good dose of vanilla from the barrels and notiecable hops. Pretty nice brew that disappears wuick at nearly 11%. WAAAAY better than the f'd up bottle of the base beer that I'll never bother with again as long as this one is around.

Aged bottle shared with my beer buddy Sam. Deep mahogany black pour, very tight and ample tan head, delicate lacing throughout. Rich roasted malts aroma, with oaken vanilla, weak bourbon, near-burnt molasses, earthy hops. Smooth flavor, easy to sip, with toasted malts upfront enhanced by the light bourbon and vanilla qualities, a bit of cocoa and molasses, more earthy hops. Very nice brew and very smooth. ABV well hidden.

This dog boasts a wonderful aroma of oak, bourbon and heavily roasted malt. Moderate bran cereal compliments the classic stout flavor, but the barrel aspect seemed to diminish in the taste. Nice black pour with an impressive head. A bit on the thin side per style.
