Brewed in the classic Scotch Ale style dating back to the 1700's, with a deep reddish brown color. Full of body, sweetness and flavor. Higher in alcohol content but possessing a smooth and lightly hopped finish. Best served at 45 degrees F in a room temperature pint glass. For the 'Big Beer' drinkers among us

Scotch/Scottish it straddles the lines. Heavy on the caramel and bread with a touch of grass and earthiness. Nice dark amber brown pour with a medium sized head that ultimately settles in. A touch watery, but very clean with a medium bodied malt content. Another good Wisconsin brew from the underground clan, thanks guys!

Was introduced to this beer by pfoxyjohn. Very fruity aroma, rich buttery mouthfeel, it is lacking any peat in flavor or aftertaste. Very well rounded beer and impressive to look at but lacks many characteristics of the style.

Sampled April 2009
An aggressive pour into my 25cl tulip glass yields a four finger thick, fluffy, tan colored crown of froth. The beer is a concentrated amber / brown color that shows a lightly hazed, cherry red color when held up to the light. The aroma has notes of butter and toffee, along with a toasted malt note and a finish of roast grain. The diacetyl character is the dominant note and it gets in the way enough that I find it hard to enjoy the nose. The beer is sweet and clean tasting up front. It has a herbal hop note in the middle (menthol and pine are noticed) and it picks up a solid bitterness as the beer moves to the finish. The finish also has a touch of roast grain character to it; it is just a hint but it adds a lingering roast not that subtly influences the finish. The sweetness here is a complex, caramelized maltiness rather than a simplistic sugar-like note. The diacetyl is here in the finish of the flavor, though it is a bit more muted than in the nose; still it is a bit more than I can really enjoy.
This could have been a good Wee Heavy, poor fermentation management has ruined this beer for me though.

Thanks to pfoxyjohn for this one. Pours a hazy dark reddish-brown with a small off-white head. I'm not a big fan of the aroma hear. The taste is nice though. Smokey with a mild bitterness to it. Not bad at all.

I got a sixer of this at home thanks to my good pal Brandon: Pours a dark muddy brown colour with a fairly large tan head. Lacing left behind is sticky and hardens quick. Taste is pleasent, hints of whisky, coffee, roasted malts and caramel. Aroma is pleaseant also, noticeable oak and whisky on the nose.

Courtesy of pfoxyjohn. Pours a deep amber with a great creamy-tannish head and very good lacing. Good carbonation. Aromas of sweet toasted malts and a very slight fruity sourness with a little hops finish. Taste is malty with a little toffee and some sweetness with little hops. Very smooth beer of one of my favorite styles.

What a beautiful beer; appears dark brown until held to the light, when its seductive mahogany color becomes apparant. The head is slight, but creamy, and leaves light lacing on the glass. Aroma is sweet malt with lightly-fruited port wine-like characteristics. Mouthfeel is full, soft and smooth. Mildly sweet flavors with just a bit of fruit. Much less sweet and lighter-bodied than many of this style, and that's OK with me. No hint of peat in this one either, but that I kind of miss. Clean, well-crafted and tasty, but reserved - almost timid.

Bottle: Poured a deep mahogany color ale with a medium head with some retention and average lacing characteristics. Aroma of sweet malt is dominating with some barley wine like feel. Taste is dominated by some very sweet malt with no peat like malt. I noticed a metallic aftertaste which I didn’t like very much. I thought this was totally off-style and I didn’t appreciated very much overall- can’t figure out what all the hype is about on this one.
