http://www.kulshanbrewery.com/beer-staging/wheat/ American Wheat Ale is made with a high percentage of malted wheat, along with Pilsner malt, and modest hopping to deliver a smooth, light, drinkable beer. American Wheat Ale is hazy golden with a thick, white head. The aroma is light and grainy like fresh-baked bread. The flavor is light and crisp with a slightly sweet/tart, peachy finish from the use of aciduated malt. American Wheat Ale plays nicely with foods of all types. It would make a great accompaniment to a fresh salad. Or you could use it to steam clams or mussels. Beer for brunch? American Wheat Ale is perfect with egg dishes, potatoes and even waffles. Washed-rind cow and goat cheeses and chevre are great cheese pairings with this beer. Wheat beers have been around at long as beer itself. Brewers from Sumeria to China used wheat in the production of beer dating back to at least 2,000 B.C. Wheat beers were popularized in both Germany and Belgium during the Middle Ages, with each country developing its own style of wheat ale. The modern American craft-brewed wheat ale dates back to 1984 when Anchor Brewing released its Anchor Wheat (later re-branded as Anchor Summer Beer.) Widmer Bros. and Pyramid soon followed suit with unfiltered wheat beers of their own.
