Perhaps it was just karma how some things work out. I randomly grabbed a pint glass from my extensive collection, and ended up with my Bud Bowl (Budweiser) pint glass that I got when the Super Bowl was in San Diego in 1998. So is it the beer's fault, or the beer glass, that this contract brew tastes like Macroswill...? Nah..., I tend to think that this would be pretty lousy in any sort glass.
Picked this up on my latest run to Hi Times in Costa Mesa, where I dropped way too much money on obscure one-timer beers like this (e.g. check out my Brewbaker beer reviews). But you only live once, so I grabbed a single of this rather laughably bad beer.
12-oz long-neck brown bottle, with a single stick-on label. Rather goofy scene of a cartoonish pig with a big "I just cut the cheese"-smile, wearing sunglasses, in jean-shorts, laying on a surfboard, against a palm tree, on what I would guess would be a beach of some sort. "Brewed & Bottled Far Away from Marrano Beach by the Indian Wells Brewing Co. for Marrano Beach Inc. Brewed in Small Batches with Only Honest Ingredients, Pure Spring Water, Malted Barley, Hops, & Yeast". Um, ok.
Poured way too energetically, with a mound of foam cascading out of the glass and into my sink. With the insipid rice aroma, I wasn't exactly worried about wasting any of this beer, that's for sure.
Very cheap (Busch? Keystone? Natural Light?) vibe to this beer. I understand that many folks may not want to be slamming Barleywine or ESB while out on the beach, but that's no excuse for making this Lager so damn swill-ish.
A disturbingly bad beer, that I suspect was created by the "Marrano Beach Inc" so that they can sell a "local beer" to tourists. But considering that I'm not a tourist, I have no idea where Marrano Beach is, and I have so many better beers at my disposal, there is little need is wasting any more time on this. Unfinishable, and a huge waste of time.
