Description A smooth, malty well-hopped ale, with a full aromatic nose made with 100% barley, hops, water and yeast. The "best bitter" description refers to this beer's higher alcohol content and its depth of hop bitterness. It is named for Jim Baldwin & Ed Cooper, the first men to climb the Grand Wall of the Stawamus Chief (702 m) in July, 1961. Awards 2009 Bronze Medal in the North American Beer Awards. 2010 Silver Medal in the North American Beer Awards. 2011 Silver Medal in the Canadian Brewers Awards. Food Pairing The rich fruitiness of this best bitter goes well with steaks, casseroles and meat pies. Its happiness can also match the flavors of spicy shellfish and Mexican food and it also provides a nice accompaniment to cheddar cheese. Our Bottle This re-closable bottle, known as a “pot-stopper”, was widely used in Europe and North America prior to the 1950s. Our new combination cap is an innovative design that allows closure by both crown and swing caps. It can be re-used and meets our green packaging objectives.

This beer has more carbonation than the first pour of draft kieths in the afternoon. Absolutely ridiculous for a english style bitter, which usually has no carbonation at all, which loses it points in the mouth feel category. Otherwise, the beer is decent, about average for a bitter style. Fairly round, well balanced, medium bodied beer, nice blood orange colour. Aroma involves a touch of tart red jolly rancher, but largely is underripe grapefruit, a touch of yeast, faint cinnamon syrup, bit of white sugar, and a good bit of bitter lemon. The beer is well balanced, and well made, but I will not likely purchase again.
