This is a stout brewed with chocolate, coffee, licorice, vanilla and chili. Our intention has been to brew a complex beer – not really extreme, but still with character. The chili is a kind of “afterburner” – it tickles the tongue, without being aggressive. The Viking Chili Stout was brewed first time to the “Frederikssund Beertasting 2013 in Valhal. The Viking Chili Stout was elected as best beer.

Pours an insane amount of frothy creamy brownish head, quite thick. Has a very deep dark brown, pretty much pitch black. Lacing is fine. Aromas are a little bit smokey. Some chocolate and faint licorice hints. Flavours are a bit sweet at first with the chocolate and licorice notes as well as hints of coffee but has some pretty good spiced notes mainly in the finish. Nice warming sensation on the palate. Should've kept this one for the winter months.

The beer pours a solid black colour with brown edges and a thick foamy brown head that lingers. The aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, molasses, and weak spicy notes. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is roasted malt, milk chocolate, and pepper in the finish. Alcohol wasn't at all noticeable. Not a bad beer, but nothing that puts this in the top tier of Imperial Stouts either. -

Difficult beer to rate. Lots of flavour but very muddled up. Dark chocolate, licorice, chili spice, pepper, roasted malt. Something else kind of odd in the smell and taste. Alcohol is noticeable. Have enjoyed Hornbeer so far but this, I'm not sure about. I think ratings will be all over the place. Just like this beer.

Pours a black-brown colour with hardly any highlights. Creamy, bubbly head, mocha-coloured, long lasting and thick foamy lacing. Big cocoa and chocolate nose. The taste is not as chocolaty, but with roasted malts, licorice, grass and the chili powder showing in the finish. Kind of messy balance at first, but with some breathing, chocolate come out to help the flavours. The is notes of rustiness that kill the rest. The mouthfeel is pretty smooth and this goes down very nicely for 10% ABV. Wish the taste was better balanced. The best before date is in 2023, so maybe the other bottles I have might get better with time.
