Rich malty flavors of caramelized and toasted grains dominate this robust Scotch ale. A hint of rye adds a crisp, scotch-like, old-world beer character, reminiscent of a simpler life from centuries ago. It’s a wee-bit heavy.

Nice mix of sweet and peat! Toffee like sweetness, but light, with gentle hopping and a kiss of smoke that goes very well. Very smooth though medium to full bodied on the palate.

Deep ruby amber pour, tall and tight white head, tons of lacing. Sweet malty aroma, touch of smoke and peat, some whiskey in a nice inviting aroma. Malty, boozy, sweet, smoky flavor. Nice. Expected just a tad more but still very good.

A bold amber colored beer with a small soapy textured light beige colored head. There's not much hang time in the head. And no lacing. Sweet malt and dark fruit in the nose. Add some light grassiness to that pronounced profile. Full bodied.

I'm colorblind so I had to put on my special sunglasses to see this red. My first scotch red that was handed to me was in a brandy snifter and it was devil red. It also had a kick, which this didn't. Unless it was like long island Iced tea it seemed to be totally lacking in the alcohol department. Still it would be something you could give to someone unfamiliar with scotch ale to make sure they weren't blown away by it.

Amber red with a thin head. Smells sweet, almost belgiany. Lots of grain and a little grass in the nose as well. Big mouthfeel without being thick. Tons of rye and hops in the flavor for a wee heavy but still a good flavor. As it warms up the sweetness and bitterness balance quite well, a little grassy on the nose but other than that pretty tasty.

Glad that I saw this for 50% off on clearance, as I have been hesitant on paying the full price on Hoppin' Frog. Liked the BORIS, and this is good too, but would have passed on this for the full ticket. A smoother, not- so-thick "heavier" Scotch. Easy to drink for the strength. Redish appearance, but not quite like an imperial red. Better than average for sure, but not something that really stands out to me.

Comes out of the bottle a nice, warm, clear cinnamon brown with a decent off-white head that does not stick around too long. Aroma is mainly malty with a sweet, fruity overtone. Flavor is mainly fruity, apple and banana, rather sweet but not cloying, with a nice malty undertone and just a whisper of hops. Texture is pleasantly smooth and has a little fizz to it.

1st Beer from my visit to the 3rd Annual Cleveland Winter Warmer Festival, and it started the day off right. Light brown pour with a creamy pale tan head and some fluffy lacing. Calm aroma of bran cereal and honey, very grainy-sweet scent. Medium bodied, seemed light for the style and I was anticipating a wee heavier mouth feel as well. Sweet and drinkable, malt forward with a touch of grass. The malt flavors ranged from a mild fruitiness to a dry honey sweetness with lots of toasted bread and cereal thrown in. Nutty aftertaste. Very good, but not far from what would pass as a typical heavy scottish ale.
