Cask; Seasonal - May & June (Originally a Special in 2006). The beer is a pale fruity ale, with a citrus lime aroma, and hopped only with Fuggles. After a successful launch in 2006, Lion is back for a seasonal slot. It is the first single hop varietal beer to be brewed by Hook Norton Brewery. Bottled, Pasteurised; The Cotswolds Conservation Board is celebrating 40 years of protected status for the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). And Hook Norton has joined in the celebrations with a new brew Cotswold Lion, at 4.2 per cent ABV, to mark the occasion, and 5p from every pint sold is being donated to the Cotswolds Conservation Board. The beer is a pale, fruity ale, brewed with Maris Otter malt and hopped with Fuggles. Brewer James Clarke said: “This is the first time we have brewed a single varietal beer.” Over the past four decades AONB designation has meant that the Cotswolds has been conserved and enhanced and that any change has, where possible, been in keeping with the distinctive nature of the area. HRH, The Prince of Wales who lives in the AONB has praised the work that has been done to conserve the Cotswolds over the past four decades and has said that he hopes that the Cotswolds Conservation Board will continue its work for countless years to come.

Bottled@The 2nd ES/CS Beer Tasting. (thanks JP). Yellowish golden colour, small white head. Aroma is citrus fruits, grass, mild dough as well as some sweet maltyness. Flavour is grassy, fruity, bready and also has some mild nectary and herbal notes. Rather watery palate.

Cask conditioned at The Lord Rosebery, Scarborough. Served at correct cellar temperature. ABV was 4.2%. Golden colour, very cloudy. Low creamy head. Hoppy and fruity aroma. Distinctly hoppy and grapefruity flavour throughout, very nice.
