Had this at D'Arcy McGee right before seeing ZZ Top at the NAC, November 8, 2012... and just found my review. Poured a clean amber colour with a white creamy head and beautiful sticky lacing. Malty nose with a refreshing wet mouthfeel and medium-bodied. Slight sweet caramel malt taste with alcohol and hops. A decent pils that is more on the malty side than hoppy.

Clear golden yellow, no foam, low carbon. Sweet bitter taste, remains for quite a while. But as this is available at many location in the netherlands drinking this still quite often.

Picked this up along with its partner from a grocery store in Utrecht. The bottle said Natuurizver Bier, but upon further investigation, it looks to be the same bier. Pours a clear golden, nice sized white head. Aroma is slightly herbal, grassy. Flavor is a tad on the grainy side with some noticeable lemongrass notes.

The slogan says it all. It has to be perfect. Hertog Jan is best enjoyed from draugt in a fresh glass. The taste is fresh and a tiny hint of bitterness.

Draught at the Langendijk Eetcafé in Amsterdam, sampled along with a tasty shrimp in garlic & olive oil appetizer. Billed by the waitress as this brewer's 'regular' beer - the only one they carried other than the solid spring bock. It was served in a distictive glass-embossed pilsner; yellow-gold with a foamy pure white head. Light aroma of steamed veggies with a thin non-descript, barely-satisfying mouthfeel. European lager flavors without a particularly assertive hop presence; mostly corn-malty and yeasty. Disappointingly mediocre.

Bottled (as Traditioneel Natuurzuiver Bier). Golden colour, mediumsized white head. Aroma is malts and hops, but very mild notes of them only. Flavour is malts and hops, a quite cleanly done pilsener.

This is a marvelous lager from the Hertog Jan Brewery in Holland. It is very light and refreshing with a kind of sparkle to it but this is not caused by over carbonation. It keeps a great head [as all Dutch beers do] and ranks probably # 2 in my lager charts behind Miller High life. I've only ever found it in Holland and got some strange looks boarding a plane home in Rotterdam with 2 crates under my arms.
