Oct. 2009 - Dark pour...no aroma at all. Kind of a subdued dark ale. Mild smokey notes. Not a horrible beer...kinda bland. Pretty much just there. Uninspiring.

This brew was not bad at all and was very drinkable. The aroma with of sweet malt with some nice oaky as well as smokey overtones. The appearance was a nice chestnut to brown in color when held to the light with a minimal head on top that diminished to a light lacing that was bleach white in color and remained leaving nice lacing on the glass. The mouthfeel was rather light for the style but yet was smooth with some nice smoked malt complexity as well as balance with a palate that was warranted but a bit thin in my opinion for the style. The flavor was woody and of smoked malt with some very faint hoppiness coming through with an aftertaste that was a bit watery but very easy to drink with a finish that was smooth and wet-like. Overall, this is a nice scottish ale here and very drinkable, however, is a bit low in the ABV% department; not a bad brew here for sure and I will have it again.
