Harpoon 100 Barrel Series - Scotch Style Ale

Poured very little head and a cloudy reddish brown color. Awesome malt aroma. Flavor of malt, raisins and caramel. Very smooth, medium body. Only a tiny bit of alcohol comes out at the end. Malt is a little roasty and almost smokey. Though it is sweet, as usually expected from the style, I found it very nice. I was given this bottle as a gift from someone who doesn't drink beer, and they definitely did a fine job! The bottle says session 06, batch date 6/16/04 (just over 2 years old).

Opened bottle to no armoma. Poured into a chalice type glass and was intrigued by aroma. Very sweet fragrance with hints of caramel and peat?. Very little head, strong white lace, orange amber color. A very strong and full mouthfeel. Malty, with caramel and chocolate, peat?, dry finish, sweet on the tongue. Full bodied scotch ale, leaving few taste buds able to function. Would buy and try again. VERY LIMITED. I ordered four cases and got two, and that is all that is available. I also heard from my Harpoon representative that this is going to be the last one hundred barrell series for quite some time, and they are going to give the line a rest, as it was felt they were forcing them out.

Poured a reddish brown color with no head, though it did leave nice lacing. Aroma of chocolate, roast and toffee. Caramel, roast and smoke in the taste.
