A few hues darker then a typical pilsner. Very dry and crisp. refreshing and thirst quenching. A bitter? malt that I found unusual and suprising, though was pleasent.

Poured a auburn red with little to no head. Not a true Bavarian festival lager, but more of a new england style harvest ale. A enjoyable cross between an irish red ale and a brown ale. Very smooth and drinakable, with both hop and malt qualitites, but nothing overwhelming. Drinkable, though not earth shattering.

Now here is a beer i long for all year, and when it finally arrives, it is gone in an instant. I have had this beer in the bottle and on tap. The first shipment I got was very light and crisp. Malty, but with more of a crisp hop bite. I was unable to get it in my store so I went else where. For my birthday I got two logs of the stuff. It poured a beautiful golden amber brown color with an adequate head. Tasted malty, brown, and smooth, with a round and crisp and clean hop finish. I have had many bottles of it since, and am down to the last twelve cases of it in the store, and it doesn;t quite compare to the draught style, though it is tasty. Not a heavy malty and sweet bavarian celebration type lager, but a well balanced autumn ale, with malts, and thirst quenching hops. A great fall clean up thirst quencher, to help you get through blowing around those damned leaves. Long Trail Brewing Companies best effort in the opinion of your humble narrator.

Opened bottle to no armoma. Poured into a chalice type glass and was intrigued by aroma. Very sweet fragrance with hints of caramel and peat?. Very little head, strong white lace, orange amber color. A very strong and full mouthfeel. Malty, with caramel and chocolate, peat?, dry finish, sweet on the tongue. Full bodied scotch ale, leaving few taste buds able to function. Would buy and try again. VERY LIMITED. I ordered four cases and got two, and that is all that is available. I also heard from my Harpoon representative that this is going to be the last one hundred barrell series for quite some time, and they are going to give the line a rest, as it was felt they were forcing them out.

Mahr's Christmas Bock is a golden yellow color, more typical of the Belgian triple style than the German Bock style. A very german hoppy aroma and mouthfeel. Prominent hop flavor, with a excellent balance of malts, and a very pleasing malt finish. Not as potent as would be expected from a German Bock, but the flavor is excellent. Not as fullbodied as the Paulaner Salvator, Ayinger Celebrator, or even the Samuel Adams Double Bock, though this is truly a wonderful winter warmer.
