I'm feeling a little let down by the name. Expected a hop-bomb but got a hoppy amber instead. Sweet caramel malt prevails with the citrusy hops noticeable in the background but not strong enough to keep the sweetness at bay.

It pours a thick and hazy dark copper and brown with a thick and dimpled light-tan head and copious lacing. A rich aroma of caramel malts, hops, candied fruits, oranges and citrus, brown sugar, strawberry nectar, raisins and dates, and light spiciness. The mouthfeel is smooth, thick, and rich. Flavors of caramel malts, plums, hops, candied fruits, strawberry nectar, raisins and dates, nuts, orange and citrus, and some alcohol and spiciness. This is wonderful!

750ml bottle, bottled on 12/07/10. Pours a hazy reddish amber with a medium frothy off white head that quickly goes to a thin film that leaves a little lacing.
The aroma is sweet tropical fruits and some resiny hops and a little caramel malt.
The flavor is sweet nutty caramel and crystal malt with tropical fruits and a bit of grassy bitterness that does stick out a little in the aftertaste. As it warms, the hops start to overpower the sweetness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and pretty watery.
Overall, a nice imperial red. It's a bit much on the sweet side for me and rather watery - but still nice. -

overpriced, yes, but this was one tasty brew. pretty dark amber color. bright hoppy aroma with a strong but balanced caramel and sweet malt profile. piney hops, grapefruit, and more sweetness in the flavor. very well done, but with a procetag well into the dbl digits, this may have to be a one timer.

Huge thanks to Dansting for this Big Idaho offering. Clear ruby red/brown pour with a tight, thick creamy head that is sustained and massive amounts of beautiful heavy lacing. Nice malty nose upfront with some caramel, then some earthy piney hops with very slight grapefruit then alcohol. Taste is big: sweet malts, pine and grapefruit hops, warming alcohol. Kudos to caddylac for bringing me this nectar from Dansting to pfoxyjohn's OktoberPfist; big thanks!

Aroma - very malt forward, tons of caramel with piney/citrusy hops floating around in the background.
Appearance - hazy copper body, off-white 1" cap, quick dissipation
Taste - seemes on the brewed tea side of things with some with some spicy/caramel malt combo being helped out by the obvious addition of piney hops. Overall - reminded me of a really small barleywine in many ways. Not bad, but far, far overpriced for what is charged. -

This is a very strong beer. I certainly wasn't expecting it to hit me like it did. A golden red pour with a thin fizzy head. Caramel was evident in both the smell and taste.

Good hoppy amber. While there is some specialty malt flavor, this beer is really a showcase for hops. There are big, bold American hop flavors, mostly citric and a bit floral. It’s not a particularly complex beer, but it’s an enjoyable exercise in hoppy imperial amber land. What’s appreciable from the malt comes across as a fairly simple spicy caramel note. It’s a rather chewy beer with a good, thick mouthfeel. I wish that the Simcoe hops were allowed to shine more, but maybe some folks feel differently. My main criticism is that the beer gets a bit astringent, but whether that is a failing of hops, malt or some combination is beyond me. Overall, it’s a nice hoppy beer but not the best imperial red by a good distance.

Sampled on 11/27/2009. This American Strong Ale pours a very nice looking reddish brown color from a 1 liter swing-top bottle. Medium sized white foamy head, with nice retention and good lacing. The aroma is citrusy hops, caramel malts and a touch of sweetness. A medium bodied American Strong Ale. The malts are fruity, caramel and sweet. The hops are citrusy and grapefruity. Nice carbonation. This beer was brewed to emphasize the hops, and it does a nice job. Nice clean citrusy and grapefruity hops balance by some fairly large malts. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
