SommerBrau is a kölsch style beer. Kölsch literally means the beer of Cologne, Germany. This beer style is a light bodied beer fermented using a special top fermenting yeast strain, which we import specially from Germany, brewing it true to style. It is brewed with 80% pale-malted barley and 20% malted wheat. The pinpoint bitterness of the German Tettnang hops and crisp finish make this beer perfect for summertime enjoyment. Alcohol volume 4.8%; bitterness 25 IBU, residual sugar 1.7% Weihenstephan Kölsch yeast Hops: Hallertau and Tettnang aroma Available seasonally May through July.

Beer poured pale golden with a decent white head with the original pour. The aroma is grainy forward with some light fruits. Taste is grainy and nutty with a touch of light fruits. Finish has a touch of bitterness. Mouthfeel is light bodied and refreshing.

This kolsch pours a typical clear yellowish gold. Aroma is hoppy and not strong. Flavor is fairly hoppy, pleasing although not complex - a typical summertime brew, light and refreshing, with just a touch of fruity sweetness. Finish has more sweet in it than the initial taste.

Sampled on 11/2/2010. This Kolsch pours a medium orange gold color from a 12oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head, with decent retention and nice lacing. The aroma is grainy, grassy, citrusy and herbal. A medium bodied Kolsch. The malts are grainy, cereal and slightly sweet. The hops are herbal and slightly spicy. Nice and very lively carbonation. Light and refreshing. Definitely a summer beer, crisp and clean with just enough flavor to not be boring. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

A crystalline golden clear beer. Big frothy textured, white head rises above. Some hang time. Settles into a nice display of film and a gentle cap. The nose is sweet bready. Spicy, floral, gentle citrus and bread all dance together in the flavoring. A Light effervescent body. Really a nice drink.
