Tannen Bomb has been rated third in the nation and seventh internationally in its class by the Beverage Testing Institute for two years in a row. This is a classic Strong Ale with over one hundred and ten pounds blended Pale, Carastan, and Crystal malts per barrel. This is a beer of true character and distinction. The bold malt complex is well balanced and refined with generous hopping of Chinook, Liberty, and Fuggles, and dry-hopped with Kent Goldings for an aromatic character.

Winter warmer... does that mean winter ale? Trying to decipher the notes on the screen at Baileys Taproom Portland. Cherry on the nose, lemon and candy, tart sugar, peach? In the mouth: medium body, sweet, quaffable, light caramel. Gentle crystal malts, more bready than anything else. Strong and sweet fruit. I think its too warm out for this beer right now...

Pours a reddish brown with a small head even after a vigorus pour and very little lacing. Aroma is sweet malt with a bit of darker fruit like apricots and...prunes? Taste kinda echos dates. Actually, dates pretty much nails it. Wow, solidly dates. I’ve never had a beer that hit one particular taste like this before. Definately dates. I’m searching for something else here and I’m struck by how much anything else present could also be said about dates. Yeah, dates; period. If you could liquidify dates, add carbonation and some alcohol, this is exactly what you would have. Palate is rather thick and decently carbonated, as in it doesn’t quite get rid of the date flavor. And for the style listed (English Strong) it completely lacks any mineral feel to it. Overall, if you love dates you’ll love this, but there are a lot of better holiday offerings out there. I really wanted to like this as I currently live in OR and like to support OR beers. Additionally, I wanted to like this because I’ve really disliked the other offerings from this brewery, so I wanted to make amends. That didn’t happen here.

Quite an attractive deep brown coloured ale, slightlyhazy with a beautiful thick, creamy off white head. Nice laceing. A very malty aroma to this one, mainlly smells of caramel and slight chocolate hints. In taste this brewis indeed dominated by the amalts, as it says so on the label, but it is not too sweet and has a low intensity, long lasting bitterness near the end. Taste profiles: ddark fruits, dried apricots and dark unrefined sugars. I found this quite pleasant on the palate on this cold late Fall night. Good cold weather ale, though I believe two would be sufficient before bed!

Reddish amber color. Small head. Aroma is spicy (cinnamon and clove) and fruity. A medium bodied “strong ale”. Malts are nutty and sweet. Hops are piney and grapefruity. Lots of winter spices in the beer, cinnamon, nutmeg and a touch of clove and ginger. Well balanced. Smooth taste. Nice winter warmer. Hides the 8% alcohol well. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and dry. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
