I have had the "normal" version of this fantabulous beer. Barrel aging takes everything up to 11! Aroma, appearance, flavor and mouthfeel all add up to one of the best beers in the known Universe, if not the best - and yes, I have had Westvleteren XII.

HUGE surprise from the KnoxBeerCrew tasting. This beer is so rare I didn't even bother putting it on my wishlist. Heavy near black pour, tight very short head, syrupy lacing, little carbonation. Smooth Bourbon aroma, dark molasses, toasted malts, vanilla, oak, more Bourbon, more vanilla, chocolate liqueur, more chocolates, chocolate all over - like a chocolate Bourbon explosion. That is the flavor and the nose - chocolate Bourbon explosion! With some vanilla, oak, toasted malts, dark molasses, more Bourbon and chocolate. My Year in Beer is ending quite well, thankyouverymuch! Happy New Year to ME!

Very different from the base, though this was a 2011 (and the base we sampled side by side was a 2012). Lots of vanilla an oak, seemingly a little more chocolate even than the other bottle. This one wins out over the base in aroma and mouthfeel. Maaaaybe a touch heavy on the bourbon, but it's oh so good, and smooth as silk (i'm torn between a 9 & 10 for feel). awesome brew, though because of price and/or difficulty obtaining, these may be a one timer for me.
