Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 8
Sampled on tap at FMB tasting- poured a hazed brownish red ale in the glass, sticky off white cap with modest retention, low carbonation. Aroma- very interesting – lightly complex; grainy, roasty, dark fruit, light sweetness, earthy, grassy. Flavor profile; huge rush of flavor in the front side, layered malting, roasty, toasty, nutty against layered hopping – pine, herb, citrus…..center palate you get some almost vinous tones with some herbaceous flavors like crushed thistle…..goes to a long wet finish where bittering builds to a nice citrus-herb bite at the end. Hides its alcohol well, nor heat in the drink at all until you get some subtle warming after a few sips. Top flight imperial ale with a style bending eloquence.
