I've had this in the 25 oz. bottle and bought a sixtel for $80. Maybe this is the best beer I've ever had. It is not an overwhelming imperial IPA but a double pale ale. It is very bitter with 80 IBU's and 9%. Creamy and intense!

Wildly hoppy! Color is rich cloudy brown, promising an excellent brew. The very aroma is loaded with hoppiness and has hints of evergreen. Flavor is very hoppy and will overwhelm anyone not used to such a beer. Surprisingly, it is not super-bitter, but very drinkable if you like your beers hoppy. Recommended to all hop fanatics.

Surprisingly good brew from a brewer I normally don't seek out too often. Calm dark copper pour with a thin white head and some lacing. Citrus and piney hops with a clean malt back drop. Very drinkable and smooth with a nice bitter kick. Very fruity and lightly sweet. Dry finish and very calm for such a bold alcohol content.

This beer had a clear, dark, burnt orange/copper color. An off white head of decent size and retention. Smooth looking, but did leave a few large bubbles around the spot of the pour. (I poured straight down the middle). Some pretty good lacing left behind. A nice fragrance of hops. Grapefruit citrus. Somewhat restrained, but still nice. More malty than citrusy from most other "double's." Caramel and toasty biscuit. Balanced well. Small churned butter note. Minute fragrance of alcohol at first, but picked up considerably as I went along. The malt and hops are balanced well in the taste. Again more malt than what I was expecting, but that's ok, it's still godd. A substantial burn at the back from the alcohol. Some piny notes. Grapefruit. Resinous. I don't taste the alcohol, only feel it. Caramel and toastiness abound, however it wasn't real sweet. Medium/full, creamy, slick mouthfeel. Velvety almost. Tons of flavor left on the palate. Feels good. Almost chewy. Nice burn that lasts the duration. I liked this beer. Very good in all aspects. Great mouthfeel. A "BIG" beer that may be a bit strong for some. Tremendous alcohol burn. High ABV would make the drinkability not so high.

double dog - i knew it had a good rep, so not a total surprise, but one of the top 2-3 beers from this brewer, easy. nice thick body and manages a malt-hop balance (sweet malt and citrus) while still being adequately hoppy on it's own. nice brew.

First off, I'm rating the DOUBLE Dog, not the Wild Dog. The beer pours a beautiful golden color with a slight red hue and just the right amount of head with lacing on the glass. The aroma is a nice, sweet citrus. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied, with a smooth taste of citrus and hops. Very hoppy, very strong and sits very heavy on the stomach, which means a slow sipping beer for me. Overall, it's a good beer but it just sits a little too heavy for me I think. The balance of taste and body is perfect. I really enjoy the high IBU as well. Oh, and the first Flying Dog beer that I actually enjoy drinking. I'm not even half done with my glass and it already feels like I've been drinking all day ;)

Pours a deep amber/slightly orange color... copper, perhaps wit a medium head. Good lacing. Strong - but nice - hops aroma. Nice carbonation. Hints of pine and grapefruit. Slightly bitter. Good beer.

Another deep amber colored ale, with a tint of orange. The head is big, frothy and white. Soapy clouds line the sides of the glass and clouds of fluff when the initial head settled. Quite impressive. The aroma is caramel and citrus. The ale is well carbonated. It’s body is moderate with a smoothness. Citric hops smack on the palate and provide a growling bite.

Smells of hops and citrus on the nose. Pours Dark red with a nice amount of head. Good balance and medium body with a smooth and crisp finish. Flavor was nice hops and malt with some raisin in there. Very Nice beer.

This was a pretty big beer. This particular brew was incredibly hoppy and looked and smelled great when poured into a pint glass. My major objection to this beer was the flavor. I LOVE hoppy beers but I didn't really like the hop flavor of this beer. It wasn't citrusy enough for me. I prefer hop bombs that taste more like Smuttynose IPA, Stone IPA, Stone Ruination IPA, and Pliny the Younger. This beer just couldn't hold up to any of those mentioned. Notwithstanding the smell of citrus when the bottle was cracked, the flavor didn't match the aroma. Instead, the beer had a very dry hop taste to it. (Side note - I was directed to this page b/c the beer I ACTUALLY had was called Flying Dog Double Dog Double Pale and the Beerpal engine insisted these two beers are one in the same. I can tell you they are NOT! The beer I had was 11.5% abv and the bottle stated that the IBU count was 85 and not 80 as listed here. In short, these beers are NOT aliases and correction should be made.)

This was my first try at a commercial double pale ale, seemed very imperial pale ale too me. Lots of hops that is for sure, nice color, foam that quickly disappeared. A definite warming note , i tried the double dog double pale ale version and my bottle says 11.5 % alc, and 85 IBU's . So you can bet that is big.
