A truly great stout. A very black pour with a 1/2" brown head. LOts of roasted goodness in the aroma with chocolate, coffee, vanilla, and some wood. Great flavour with the sweet vanilla and chocolate hints balanced out by the bitterness of the coffee. Alcohol was not noticeable.

i agree with the malted chocolate description from the last reviewer. very tasty indeed. full bodied and robust, although the alcohol % is well hidden. subtle hop presence. too bad the service has sucked 3 times out of three. I won't be back for a 4th... 7/09-had a barrel aged bottle that a friend bought. much more vanilla oak bb flavors. slightly better than i remember. falls somewhere between the chocolate raisiny sweetness of sam adams imperial and the vanilla bourbon body and taste of a bourbon county stout.

Bottle. Bless the person who brought this back on a recent trip up to Truckee and brought this back. What a stunningly tasty impy stout. It's always nice to find a gem like this, especially when there's no hype involved, no "Day" attached to it, no gimmicks. Just a fantastic beer.

The beer pours out a blacker than black color, viscuous and a 1-finger thick tan head. The head stayed thruought the entire time drinking, and had a nice creamy feeling. The aroma was bursting with coffee, malted chocolate (dark chocolate Whoppers anyone?), brown sugar, tobacco and vanilla. Amazing. The creamy-smooth mouthfeel was just a pleasure. The flavor had just the perfect blending of everything I love in my stouts. Deep, rich chocolate, roasted coffee beans, bourbon, vanilla, molasses...again...amazing. Everything was so well put together. Nothing really stood out. Reminded me of the perfect rock band...everything playing as one, harmonizing and creating something intense and wonderful.

Tasted at the May Northern California Beer Tasting. This Imperial Stout pours a deep black color from a 22oz bottle. Small sized tan foamy head. The aroma is chocolate, coffee, a hint of vanilla and some oak. A full bodied stout. The malts are chocolate and coffee, touch of dark fruit, a hint of vanilla and a nice warm bourbon flavor. The hops are earthy. Far in away this was the best beer of the night. A very smooth, rich and clean tasting beer. Nice mix of chocolate, coffee and the bourbon barrel flavors. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
