This is the first international collaborative brew created in New Zealand, between Luke Nicholas (Epic Brewing Company) and Kelly Ryan (kiwi) (Thornbridge Brewing Company). What's up with the barrels? Well half of the batch (2500 litres) of the Epic Thornbridge Stout was put into American Oak barrels on 19 April 2010. The barrels previously had Epic Armageddon IPA in them for 8 weeks. This is a first time putting stout into barrels that have had IPA in them, so not sure the outcome. The plan is to release the barrel aged stout for Beervana, 27-28 August in Wellington. INGREDIENTS Malt - Maris Otter, Munich, Caramunich, Dark Crystal, Brown, Light Chocolate, Carafa Special 1, Roast Barley Hops - UK Target, UK Bambling Cross Alc/Vol - 6.8% IBU - 54 Style - Stout

Pours out in a dark brown, almost black colour with a low firm tan-coloured head. Rich aroma of roasted malts, coffee and dark chocolate with hints of grassy hops. Medium-bodied with rich rounded notes of roasted malts, bittersweet coffee, dark chocolate and nut-shells. Smooth mouthfeel with gentle carbonation. Long medium-bitter finish of dark chocolate and cold coffee.
