Bold and Lively Winter Ale BODY Medium to Sturdy TASTING NOTES Pours golden with orange highlights. Smells alluringly sweet like caramel apples with a little spice and orange zest. Taste is bold and balanced with a good amount of citrus and earthy hop bitters to offset the bready, sweet malt character. Finishes dry with a bit of fruit. Taps hazy amber with a substantial buff head. Aroma offers malty, pomme and subtle piney hops. Flavor ramps up all of these, especially the hops, and adds a touch of spice. Mouthfeel presents decent body and peppy fizz. How 'bout them Vikings.

Not dark, not heady, whole lotta lacing. Malty, hoppy aroma. Metallic, bitter taste, along with a caramel, really malty, spicy flavour. Don't love the metallic, or the spicy hop flavour. Tastes strong, pretty mediocre. I remain a non-fan of elysian.

Malty aroma with a little bit of pine hops. Cloudy amber color with a medium, near white head and average lacing. Has quite a hoppy flavor and a medium body. I'm honestly not sure why they'd go out of their way to call this a Winter Ale when to me it's just another Imperial IPA. It has the strength to be prefered in winter, but you could say the same about any stronger IPA then! it is nice to have a beer that isn't overly citrus with hops.

Sampled on 1/22/2010. This American Strong Ale pours a orange gold color from a 22oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head with nice lacing and good retention. The aroma is fruty, sweet and orange with some citrus. A medium bodied ASA. Malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are citrusy and orange. Nice carbonation. Nice balance between the hops and the malts. Good sipping beer. A nice winter beer without any of the typical winter spicing. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and a touch dry. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

a very nice winter warmer. robust and malty, but with enough hops to balance. full flavored and warming on a cold night, which is just what i was looking for. 2013 much more ipa like, spicy and good. Pretty s substantially different, though.

A winter ale that manages to succeed without spices. Bifröst (silly name - also, Elysian’s new packaging is not my cup of tea) is a pleasant-looking, mildly hazy, copper-colored affair with a creamy, lasting head. This beer has an interesting blend of European and American hop aromas, grapefruits and grass. It’s much more hop assertive than I was expecting, but there is a definite doughy malt presence. The taste is mildly dry with a pleasant, medium bitterness. It’s a medium-bodied beer with a touch of wateriness in the finish. The finish is nice and bitter. Good beer for a change of pace in the hops department.

Very "English" looking ale in my pint glass, dark orange/amber with a nice sized frothy/bubbly light tan head. The aroma is actually quite hoppy in character, but there is plenty malts and a good dose of spiciness. The taste however is very much on the malty side..toffeeish,caramel malts with black coffee hints, there is a litle hopping noticable, it perks up the mouthful near the end, then the beer finishes with a long, long bitter malt aftertaste with spicy ,peppery undertones. Excellent palate to this one, quite thick. I found this a nice enough beer, but i think for me one bomber at a sitting is enough..the bitter aftertaste tends to deter another bottle.

A light orange appearance. Odd twist on the usual big malty english strong ales seasonals. A bit of sugar, citrus, and caramel present in the flavor. It would appear my notes get shorter and shorter as the evening progressed. Overall it was decent at best.
