330 ml swingtop bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård, Denmark. ABV is 9%. Very dark brown colour, nearly black. Large beige head. Aroma of moderately roasted malts and Belgian ale yeast, notes of mild coffee, hints of chocolate and dark dried fruits. The flavour is sweeter than the aroma made me expect, notes of malt sugar and molasses, hints of caramel and chocolate, roasty coffee notes in the finish, a moderate hoppy and roasty bitterness in the aftertaste. Decent, but a bit too far out on the sweet side for me.

Trying too hard, or not hard enough? Pours dark black with a small bit of tan head. Aroma has a turpentine thing going on. Mouthfeel is a bit weak and watery, moreso than expected. Flavor has too much licorice going on for me. Stouts are my favorite - this one is just not there.

chocolate, coffee, molasses, dark fruits...this one has each in just about equal measure. little hop presence. solid body...pretty smooth from start to finish. an impressive stout. this was at least a year old.

This beer was awesome! I had a sample of it on tap at Max's in Baltimore the last time I was down there. This beer is amazing - dark, heavy, and flavorful - flavors typically found in a stout such as coffee and chocolate just with the added flavor produced from Belgian yeast. Simply awesome!

This is one kickass beer. A very black pour, thin creamy brown head, with a wafting aroma of roasted malt, coffee, and plums. The flavour is more of the same, in a silky palate that leaves a warm lingering aftertaste.

Rich aroma fairly fills the nose with the mouth-watering aroma of fine roast coffee and unsweetened chocolate that has nutty and toffee hints. It pours a deep, appetizing sable with a fairly thick, if not too persistent, pale tan head. Flavor is smoky, malty, a little sweet with firm tones of roast coffee and nutty and yeasty touches. Texture is smooth and nicely tingly, a bit thin at first but improving a little as I kept going.

A new discovery at the latest Sharp Edge opening here in the Pittsburgh area, the Brasserie. The head is mocha colored but very thin, and quickly dissolving. The beer itself is a dark brown, with aromas of sugary citrus and a wee hint of perfume. The tastes seemed to be a little bit plain and weak for a stout. Very light on the buds. Not as assertive as Troubadour, where the cocoa and coffee flavors are very bold. Hercule is a little too musty as well. Not bad. But I prefer Troubadour when it comes to Belgian stouts.

I tried this one at the 2008 Max's Belgian Beer Festival in Baltimore, MD when one of my friends purchased a bottle for all of us to share.
The Hercule Stout poured out a dark color with a hint of red to it when you hold it to the light. It had a tan head on it and the aroma of coffee and chocolate emitted from the glass.
The flavor was great. It had this "chocolate and vanilla" thing to it with a little coffee and caramel thrown in. There was a lot going on and my tongue was on overload. The back end of the beer really had a sweet finish to it. Overall, this beer was extremely smooth.
This is a nice alternative to the Old Rasputin that I've grown so fond of. Not quite as good and maybe a little more expensive, but still worth trying out if you catch this one at your local watering hole. -
