Sampled at the Drake’s Barrel House on 2/18/2012. This triple IPA pours a medium to deep orange gold color from the tap. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is orange, orange peel, grapefruit, citrusy, piney, fruity and sweet. A full bodied Triple India Pale Ale. The malts are fruity and sweet, orange and orange peel. The hops are citrusy and grapefruity, very grapefruity, piney and floral, A medium to high bitterness IPA. Decent carbonation. Lots of malts at the start and lots of hops at the finish. Very well balanced. Touch of alcohol bite at the finish. Probably the best of the Triple IPAs I have tried this year. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

What a treat! The 12.5% gave me puse, but only briefly. They did SO well on this beer. I like most all of their hoppy offerings, and they have 3 different IIPA's that stand out from the crowd, including the "regular" Hopocalypse, at a mere 9.5%. This thing is a whole nother beast. Definitely sweeter and thicker, but not maltier per se...still keeps it's wonderfull resiny aroma and taste. Actually pine resin would seem to be the key ingredient :) It's the smoothness and utter drinkability of this beer that blows my mind, though. The bitterness is there, but only sneaks up on you at the end (or after), and the sweetness is intense without any cloying. AWESOME brew.
