Sounds stodgy. Tastes bloody brilliant. Earnscliffe ESB blends caramel and biscuit malt notes with mild earthy hop aroma. A rich, full-flavoured ale, this quintessential style is popular in traditional UK pubs. This beer is named for the residence of Canada’s first Prime Minister, Sir John A. Macdonald; now home to the British High Commissioner to Canada.

On tap at Jack Astor's, Nepean. Pours a fairly small foamy beige head and has a hazy amber appearance. Some sticky lacing remains. Aromas of caramel, toasted malts and light resin notes. Flavours are mostly malty, some notes of dried fruits (raisins, plums) some caramel and more toasty notes. A little bit of yeast but quite faint. The raisin shows up much more in the finish. A good balance of sweetness and bitterness. Not bad.
