This beer was brewed in the Belgian Tripel style... with much exageration! An enormous amount of Citra hops was used, giving to the beer a powerful bitterness and obvious hops aromas. This beer had been fermented with our Abbey-style Belgian yeast, but at low temperature in order to limit the production of fruity and spicy esters. Aromas of mango, cantaloupe melon and passion fruit exhale all along the tasting, and match without complex with the strong alcohol content and hops. According to the legend, the Herbe à détourne is a plant that makes you loose your way if you step on it. This beer finds its roots in the tradition of the Belgian Tripel style, but was designed in the New World way. Citra Hops is used without restraint, giving the beer an intense bitterness. Aromas of mango, cantaloupe melon and passion fruit exhale all along the tasting, and match without complex with the strong alcohol content and hops. Herbe à détourne is brewed only once a year, and is sold in April until stocks last. The Herbe à détourne was born in our Montreal brewpub in May 2010

Pours a hazy golden colour with a foamy off-white head, decent retention and some bubbly lace. You can definitely smell the Citra hops giving out some sweetness (oranges) and mild grapefruit zest. This creates a nice mild bitterness, well-blended the alcohol and the sweetness of the tropical fruits. Mango lingers in the aftertaste. This brew is an amazing twist on the Tripel style.

Pours a small amount of foamy beige head that doesn't stay very long. Ok lacing as a result. Has a slightly cloudy golden appearance. Aromas of exotic fruits, strong citrus hops, breads and sweet malts. Flavours of oranges and mangoes are noticeable. Has a bit of that citrus tang. Also floral hops and definitely some spices. Even a bit yeasty. Grapefruits flavour in the finish. Warm and tingling sensation. Nice bitterness. A bit of a wet mouthfeel. The fruitiness masks the alcohol feel quite a bit which is a good thing. Good stuff!
