A dark, nearly black colored beer with a big fluffy textured light tan head rising above. There's good hang time on that head. It settles into a low lying film and thick cap. A nutty, earthy nose. Vanilla and smokey peat are intense in the taste. True to the traditional of the style. Light medium bodied with a slickness on the tongue.

eh. this was ok. it initialy had too much of that lemony astringency that some scotch ales can have in the nose and flavor. i'd have scored this lower, but it faded as the beer warmed. what was left was a slightly too light, but pleasant smokey, peatym fruity malt beer. ok, but subpar for the style.

SF Int'l Beer Fest - I was a bit disappointed with this beer. It started off very nicely with a slightly earthy, peaty nose. Nothing overpowering, but definitely there. Appearance was a chocolate brown color. Flavors were a bit off I thought, but I could pick up a slight smokiness, slight earthiness but overall it was bland. All the flavor's were muted somehow. It has the potential to be much, much better so I will have to revist in a year or so.

Medium brown color. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is malty and slightly peaty. A medium bodied scotch ale. Malts are fruity and smoky. Hops are bitter and a touch grapefruity. Nice scotch ale. Very pleasant smoke and peat flavors. Nice balance. Smooth taste. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
