Once-A-Decade Ale Jubel 2010 is a deeply dynamic presentation of the flavors found in our festive winter seasonal, Jubelale. Available on tap around the holidays at our pubs as Super Jubel, February 2010 marks only the second time we have ever bottled this immortal libation. As some of you may remember, the first and only other time this special brew was bottled was to celebrate the new millennium as Jubel 2000. The internally dubbed “Super Jubel” was discovered by accident two decades ago when a clumsy burglar didn’t realize the weight of his stolen keg of Jubelale. He dropped it outside to freeze in the season’s sub-zero temperatures - only to be discovered the next morning by Gary Fish, Deschutes Brewery's owner. More than half the liquid in the keg had frozen and the remaining beer was a very cold, highly concentrated “Jubelale on steroids.” It was so good that the brewers set about recreating it (minus the freezing part) coming up with an annual “Super Jubel” that is aged in Oregon oak pinot barrels.

I stole this beer from PfoxyJohn's beer cooler in July during my visit to Wisconsin while up in the Bar(n). Really. I did. He wouldn't let me pay him for it so I stole it. Last Thanksgiving after dinner beer of 2013, shared. Deep amber color, translucent, short head which reduces to a constant ring, some lacing. Looks (and tastes a bit) like brandy. Ripe ripe fruits, booze, rum raisins, oak, more booze, earthy hops - this thing is bad ass! Hot. I mean HOT. A true sipper that my brothers-in-law and nephew thoroughly enjoy after Thanksgiving dinner, and we were all giving thanks to the PfoxyJohn himself. Great beer to celebrate with family. Can't thank Mr. Pfister enough. EPIC beer.

A big thanks to SlowRunner77! I shared this beer with family on Christmas. This was a big beer ... a fig bomb if you will. Very Belgian-esque. I enjoyed it but I think this beer could have spent another year aging ... A tad hot still. All in all, a very nice beer.

Bottle, kindly shared by gunnar, as Deschutes Jubel 2010 Once a Decade Ale. ABV is 10%. Very dark brown colour. Extremely malty intense aroma and flavour, caramel, oak and dark fruits. The flavour is to some extent balanced by moderate hops. Nice aftertaste.

Dark brown color with a medium size tan head of non-uniform bubbles. Big hop, dark fruit aroma. Super smooth mouthfeel on the first sip was great. Full body. Starts off very sweet and finishes very bitter. Alcohol comes in a little at the end but not bad for 10%. Lots of raisin and fig. The more I drink it the more the alcohol comes out. I still think it's pretty well balanced, but not as complex as I hoped for.

22 oz wax covered bottle, best after 1/29/11. Pours a dark amber brown with a smallish creamy off white head that goes to a thin film that leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is sugary malts and lots of dark fruit and cherries with some alcohol and vinous oak.

The flavor is sweet sugary molasses, with some caramel malts and a lot of dark fruits and cherry. It has a bitter alcohol finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full with low carbonation.

Overall, a bit unbalanced on the sweet side followed by a little harsh bitterness. It would be interesting to try aged some to see if the sweetness and bitterness mellow and become something even better.

An interesting offering from Dechutes, aromas an flavors of raisin, molasses, oak, alcohol, prunes, caramel, and breadiness all kind of reminded me of spiced fruit cake. The aftertaste was a little strange and i cannot place it, I didnt see it until after opening but it said best after 1-29-11 and some age will help it for sure. Overall it is a good beer, but its not my style.

Sampled on 2/26/2010. This American Strong Ale pours a deep ruby color from a 22oz bottle. Small to medium sized beige head. The aroma is caramel, dark fruit, wood and molasses. A medium to full bodied American Strong Ale. The malts are caramel, dark fruit and molasses. The hops are earthy. Nice balance. There is a touch of wood. Very smooth taste. This one has excellent aging potential. Hides the alcohol well. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

One of those must haves. Got a growler as I was passing though Florence. So my pour was distorted. A redish brown with very little head. Warm with a slight wine sweetness. Mouthfeel was full. Very complex. It will be gone next time I visit. So it will be 2020 before I try this one again.

on tap-this jubel was "super" indeed. more wine-like than beer-like in many aspects. the feel was so smooth from the pinot barrels, which also gave a pleasant oakiness and fruity character to the aroma and deeply complex flavor. a little on the sweet side, which is really the only thing preventing this one from getting a couple tens. a sipper for sure. reminded me of DFH's better beers, but with added layers of complexity. subsequent aged samples not quite a 4.5, more like a 4.3.
