Deschutes 20th Anniversary Wit

On tap at O’brien’s. Pours with a light golden body topped by a medium thick, white head with a good amount of lacing. It’s citrusy, grassy and wheaty wtih bitter notes and light sweet notes. Light bodied, crisp and a touch dry.

good for the style, but this really isn't my style. i'd have liked it quite a bit, though, without the coriander. all the other spices and flavors played nice. the aroma is better than the taste. not bad, not great.

This witbeer pours a slightly hazy yellow gold color from a 22oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is citrus, banana and clove. A medium bodied witbier. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are spicy. Lots of citrus and coriander flavors. Very lively carbonation. A nice light tasting and refreshing summer beer. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

22 oz bottle. Pours a clear(?) light golden yellow with a fine white head that retains and laces the glass.

The aroma is spices, wheat, a touch of fruits, and musty leather and medicinal alcohol with a little skunkiness.

The flavor is pretty subdued - wheaty malts, a little citrus, and some spices. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with some sharp carbonation.

Overall, not a really good wit.

Poured golden with some head that went away quick. Smell of belgium candy and corriander. Mouthfeel sucked.. way to watery.... The flavor was good and refreshing nice and orangy with some nice spice.

A vigorous pour into my 25cl tulip glass produces an initial, three-finger thick, pale, off-white colored head that leaves some wispy lacing as I work my way through this beer. The beer is a nice gold hue and shows an almost brilliantly clear, pale gold color when held up to the light. Quite aromatic in its spiciness, as I pour this beer I note aromas of orange peel, and coriander citrus notes. A more dedicated inspection of the aroma yields much of the same; I like how clean the coriander is, only muted earthy notes are noticeable, instead the coriander is much more citrus like in character. Grassy grain aromatics a touch of young ginger and some light clove notes form a subdued, secondary layer underneath the more obvious notes.

Smooth at first, but as it rolls across the tongue a zip of carbonation adds a nice fizzy texture. This has some body to it, not enough to make it anything but light, but it is not watery at all and in fact has a nice creamy texture to it (likely from some oats). The carbonation provides a soft peppery bite and in fact there is a bit of piquant pepper that lingers on in the mouth. Lightly sweet with clean grain flavors that lightly accentuate a nice citrus flavor that comes across as a mix of lemon and orange zests. This has a faint tartness to it from the wheat interaction with the fermentation, but it is actually on the low side, even for a "clean" Wit. A touch of grassy grain flavors linger on a bit in the finish as well.

Quite quaffable as a good Wit should be, but it is a little too clean to be incredible; a touch more tartness would have gone a long way and even a bit more fermentation character would have been nice. Still, as someone who enjoys Wits, this is a good beer that I am happy to be drinking right now.
