For those of you who don't know who "Scotty Karate" is... He is a local one man band who plays an amazing slurry of honky tonk influenced, punk country songs. His voice is amazing as well as his high energy shows. (Check him out @ www.scottykarate.com) So, we decided to make a beer and name it in his honor. This beer is a big, full bodied Scottish ale. It is 9.75% alc. but it is very smooth and balanced. Since Scotty is also very passionate about beer I asked him to write a description for you, so from the man himself... Aroma: Smells like A fresh caramel apple with a hint of cinnamon inside of cranberry shortbread. Or maybe fresh home made hard candy (from home economics class-7th grade). Flavor: Tastes like a smokey chocolate chip cookie, wild roadside cherry-asparagus, woody, crispy leaf on a fall day.

Pours barely translucent chestnut with a thin buff head. Bold aroma has caramel, malty, woody and subtle fruity notes. Sharp flavor rolls caramel, toasted malt, fruit and wood tones across the tongue. Texture has average body but good fizz. This will give you a kick!

Dark ruby red with small lacing light brown foam ring. Aroma is light caramel, light smokey charcoal, kind of complex. Taste little smokey, with little bitter aftertaste. All is little which makes this a good beer. (Madrid 201406)

12 ounce bottle .. . deep purple .. light foam, medium lacing .. . tar molasses and burnt cookies .. . medium mouth feel, medium finish .. . . Dang right. Fact is, I invented kissing. It was during World War I, and they were looking for a new way to spread germs…

Very flavourful beer and worth every penny. The band it's named after isn;t all that good however, a lot of noise. A solid brown pour, with red hues and a tan cap. Caramel, molasses, and coffee are the dominant aromas in this brew, while the flavour is nice and sweet, without being overly so.

12 ounces capped bottle. Poured a hazy dark mahogany or dark brown-red coloured ale with a three fingers tan creamy foamy head that had a very long retention and tons of micro bubbles. Soft carbonation. Great lacing. A lot of sediments. The aroma is rich, toasted malts, caramel, spicy, licorice, cinnamom, dark ripe fruits, plums, notes of smoke. The flavour is also rich, roasted malts, spicy, licorice, molasses, dark ripe fruits, plums, raisins, cherries, flowery, violet. The mouthfeel is creamy, thick and very smooth. This medium to full bodied ale has a lingering spicy finish and a noticeable warming effect. An amazing tasting Scottish Ale. I agree !

Enjoyed while wrapping up some gifts for Christmas. Just a really great example of this style that I immensley enjoyed. Aroma was chock full of Tootsie Roll like aromas, light smoke, and dark chocolate. Flavor had a wonderful combo of dark chocolate and smoke flavors, with lots of toffee and earth notes. Smooth, clean body with a bitter chocolate finish. Excellent stuff. -

Bottled@OHaras. Brownish amber colour, small head. Aroma is leathery, toffeeish, alcohol and some nuts. Flavour is roasted malts, tar, alcohol and some wood. Semidry palate.

Dark amber brown pour, thin head and little lacing. Aroma and flavor center around a healthy dose of figs, caramel, wood and peat. A touch nutty with some other darker fermented fruit notes. Strong, sturdy drink with good character. Didn't blow me away by any means, but it's a nice thing to get a hold of if you can.

A style which is fairly new to me. Pours a hazy reddish brown color with a 1 1/2 finger tan head which slowly fades to a thin covering on the top of the beer. Tons of floaties. Pleasant smell, indicative of the style with sweet, roasted malts dominating. Taste is similar to the smell, but there is an unusual aftertaste which I can't put my finger on. Nice dry finish. A bit disappointing, as I have found Dark Horse to be quite an exceptional brewery in regards to IPA's and stouts. Still worthwhile to try in comparison to other Scottish Ales.
