    Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6

August 2008 Bottle Date: Sampled September 2008,br> Pours into my 25cl tulip glass with a frothy, initially almost three finger thick, pale, off-white colored head. The beer is actually a nice copper hue as it sits on my desk and shows a bright, brilliantly clear, full gold color when held up to the light. Aromas of sweet grain, a touch of honey like malt, a light herbal / citrus note that is a bit like lemon verbena, a cracker like grain character. The malt here definitely plays the leading role (especially a dusty, crushed grain note), but there is just enough hop character to be noticeable.

Lightly sweet, but finishes with a crisp dry quality. The hop character provides light flavors of herbs and a light grassiness as well as a faint, slightly astringent bitterness. The sweetness has a certain light toffee note to it, with a touch of honey'd malt and a sweet, grassy grain note. There is something to this that reminds me of marshmallows, though I am not sure what. This has quite a bit of heft to it for a lighter American Style Lager and I would guess that it is actually an all malt brew; I definitely like the mouthfeel, it has a certain creaminess to it, but is still light enough to be quite quaffable. As the beer warms up just a hint of DMS is noticeable around the edges and actually seems to add positively to the flavor profile with a soft creamed corn note.

Not a bad beer, with it being called an American Lager I was expecting something a bit more macro oriented. This certainly has a modicum of flavor though and I could even see myself drinking this again if the mood struck me.

Purchased: Papago Brewing Co., Scottsdale AZ
