A rich, chocolatey… sour. It may sound strange – until you try it. Our new Blueberry Sour with Cacao Nibs launches at the brewery Saturday, Dec. 14! While rich, chocolatey flavours typically belong to porters and stouts, we’re throwing you a curveball with our winter seasonal sour. Sweet blueberries and decadent cacao are balanced with just the right amount of tart acidity, for a fruit-forward sour that finishes with smooth hint of chocolate.

Pours a fairly big foamy pinkish head that dissipates to a thin coating and has a cloudy ruby reddish appearance. Average amount of sticky lacing. Lively carbonation. Aromas of various berries, vanilla, cacao. Flavours are mostly the blueberries, a mixture of various other similar berries, cacao nibs are quite noticeable, some light chocolatey hints towards the finish. Big sour notes on the palate, a little tarty as well. Good stuff.

The beer pours a blackish-blue colour with a generous bubbly head that lasts a while and laces well. The blueberries and the chocolate dominate the aroma but there are also hints of yeast and grains. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is tart fruit up front, and chocolate smoothness in the back end. Quite enjoyable to be honest! -

Cloudy red-pink-purple colour with a big pinkish frothy head, good retention and nice foamy-creamy lacing. Blueberry juices with hints of cherries, spices. The chocolate is there, slightly behind, but blending well. Cereal notes, probably from the flaked oats. The taste is quite sour with the berries. The cacao nibs are just there in the background. It nicely lingers mildly on the tongue with the fruit. A very interesting sour ale.
