This beer has a long and glorious history dating back to at least the sixteenth century. Dopplebock was released each year in time for Fasching, the German equivalent of Mardi Gras. As such it became strongly associated with the coming spring. The intention of this beer was to provide extra nourishment during fasts. The result is dark brown with garnet tones, immensely malty with a surprisingly dry finish.
